这位万斯白来自意大利，跟美国的万斯没有任何关系。每一位渴望和平的人都应该阅读的书。作为一个中国人在阅读这本书的时候的情感是很混合的：一方面，书中描述的大的历史事件和时间脉络在历史书籍中都有描述以至于显得是在陈述简单的常识；但是书中作者亲身经历的时代和个人感受，又让我看的后背发凉。看完几页之后，可能你会暂时的忘记书里面的细节，但是总会在完全无关的日常家务中突然想起，并因此而呼吸急促。这种恐惧可能会不断地无法克制的反刍。看完真本书，再看姜文导演的《邪不压正》，就更有了历史的厚重和悲壮感。

人们常说千万不能忘记历史。但是如果历史缺少细节和个人化的感受，那么很容易被逐步的解构，并滑入相对主义。所以，要阅读具体的人的感受，感受情绪。

不幸的，出版本书几年后，本书作者在1943年（具体时间不详）被日军杀害。
