十五位中国杰出青年历史学人。每个人一篇人物访谈，然后跟着一篇代表作（短篇或节选）。这本书从好几个不同的层面撕开了我的视野：第一，当代中国依然是有很多心平气和做学问的人存在的，而且做得开心，出了点成绩的；第二，每个人研究的内容深入到某一些历史的细节或剖面，当我随着作者的视角探头进入看的时候，好几次都让我突然间有一种突然腾空而起的顿悟感或者身子猛地下坠的恐惧感。
书中有一篇介绍曾国藩的家族如何壮大的，作为背景描述，写出来了“一般从农民上升到当官，平均需要四代人的时间”这样的事实。以及平静的描写曾国藩在任职期间如何保持清廉，而他的弟弟曾国荃如何通过贪腐等手段壮大家族宗祠的对比。历史没有绝对的黑和白，当深入到细节之中的时候，能够看到一代人有一代人的生活，一代人的无奈，一代人的抱负与抗争。
每次阅读最好有30分钟连续的时间。仿佛坐时光机一样，回到某一个历史的切面中。
